Dr. Rayna Freedman is a passionate educator, leader, and lifelong advocate for curiosity-driven learning. With over two decades of experience in elementary education, she brings a unique blend of classroom expertise, district leadership, and forward-thinking innovation to her work with schools and educators.
Rayna’s journey into education is deeply personal. Inspired by the joy of watching students experience those powerful “aha” moments—and shaped by her own early experience with a teacher who discouraged curiosity—she has dedicated her career to creating learning environments where questioning, exploration, and student voice are not only welcomed but celebrated. She believes that education should empower learners, not silence them.
She earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, Learning, and Leading from Northeastern University, where her research focused on reimagining professional development to better meet the evolving needs of educators in digital learning spaces . Her work spans curriculum design, instructional technology, equity-centered leadership, and large-scale professional development planning.
Throughout her career in Mansfield Public Schools, Rayna has led initiatives that bridge vision and practice—from developing district-wide professional learning systems and aligning curriculum to state frameworks, to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and shaping policy at both school and district levels . A recognized leader in educational technology and innovation, she has also contributed to statewide efforts, including collaboration with DESE on Digital Literacy and Computer Science standards and service on the Artificial Intelligence Task Force.
In the classroom, Rayna is known for designing student-centered learning experiences that honor the whole child. Her work integrates Universal Design for Learning, project-based approaches, and meaningful use of technology to ensure access and engagement for all learners. She was named a STEM Teacher of the Year finalist in 2022, reflecting her commitment to innovative and inclusive instruction .
Beyond her professional work, Rayna is someone who believes deeply in living a full and joyful life. She’s an avid fan of concerts and theater, always keeping her “ticket envelope” (now digital) full—because for her, learning and inspiration don’t stop at the classroom door.
At Riverside Learning, Dr. Freedman brings her energy, expertise, and unwavering belief in the power of education to transform both teaching and learning.
