Course Description: This graduate-level course is designed for K–12 Massachusetts licensed educators seeking to deepen their understanding of advanced learners, including gifted and talented students, within the general education classroom. Delivered virtually through Google Classroom, this five-module course (Fall 2026) explores the academic, social-emotional, and instructional needs of advanced learners and provides practical, research-based strategies to support and challenge them effectively.
Participants will examine characteristics of advanced learners, common misconceptions, and the importance of equitable access to appropriately rigorous instruction. Through readings, videos, and collaborative discussion boards, educators will engage in meaningful reflection and dialogue, best practices for differentiation, enrichment, and acceleration in diverse classroom settings.
Emphasis is placed on translating theory into practice, equipping educators with actionable strategies that can be immediately implemented to better meet the needs of advanced learners while maintaining inclusive classroom environments.
